Use of Teaching Assistants and their roles with teachers:

 

At St Mary’s we have a high ratio of adult support in the classroom situation.  This allows us place more emphasis on increasing progress for all pupils.

 

What does this allow us to do?

 

  • Two guided reading sessions per week,
  • 2 Guided writing sheets per week
  • Analysis groups are created for all pupils based on evidence of the child’s personal achievement in maths and English. These strengths and weaknesses are then analysed and plans are produced for individuals and groups and focussed on by the teaching assistant and teacher.  This is in addition to the curriculum that we are already giving them.
  • The analysis groups and guided groups enables all pupils to have access to learning support.
