A Typical Day at St Marys
A Typical Day at St Mary’s
At St Mary’s all the staff work hard to make children’s learning as enjoyable as possible. Below is a summary of the things that happened on Thursday 20th November.
Reception Class and Year One
Reception class and Year one were visited by Sheffield Wildlife Trust who worked with the children to make dens in the path through the bushes area. They also learnt lots about the nature in out school grounds.
Year Two
Year two have been learning about being healthy in science and doing problem solving in a real life context in maths. The children worked in small groups the previous day to plan what they would like on their pizza.
On Thursday morning the children walked down to Morrisons to buy the ingredients to make their healthy pizza. They enjoyed picking their own fresh produce and selecting the best offers! The children handed over the money and bagged their own shopping up before carrying it back to school.
Once back in the classroom the children worked with an adult to make their pizzas in their groups!
They enjoyed eating them after lunch time!
Year Three
Year Three went to Eureka Science Centre the previous day so they did some work during the day about what they had learnt there.
Some year three pupils went to play in a football tournament after lunch. They came home champions! Well done!
Year Four
Year Four go swimming every Thursday afternoon.
Year Five
Year Five are working on a project which is being used throughout Barnsley. The children enter a virual world called ‘Barnsborough’ and explore the surroundings using an avatar to move around. Barnsborough has excellent links with literacy as the children explore what might have happened to all the inhabitants of the fictional town that have disappeared.
Year Six
The pupils in year six enjoyed making lemon cheese cake today in our pupil kitchen. All the children in school work with Miss Spencer during the year.
After School
Miss Wroe runs an after school club every day. The dates of the clubs are published on the school website.
Some children from the KS1 Gymnastic Club took part in a competition for Barnsley schools. They came 4th!
